Paraffin in Space! 11 October 2024
Did you know that paraffin, mainly known for candle production, is now being used to power rockets?
The German startup HyImpulse Technologies has decided to use paraffin as fuel for its rockets, combining it with liquid oxygen. This solution is not only cheaper but also safer and more environmentally friendly compared to traditional rocket fuels. Thanks to paraffin’s stability, rockets can be transported like ordinary cargo without the need for expensive explosion-proof measures.
In 2024, HyImpulse successfully conducted a test of the SR75 rocket. Moreover, the company is already working on a larger model capable of carrying heavier payloads to altitudes exceeding 500 km!
This is a fascinating example of how innovative thinking and the use of everyday materials can revolutionize the space industry. Paraffin, a byproduct of oil refining, could become a key element in future space missions, offering more affordable and sustainable solutions. More information here.
